From initial planning and installation through to commissioning and ongoing operation, we provide the Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) and Medical Physics Expert (MPE) support required to establish and maintain a compliant radiology service.

Radiation protection begins before the equipment is installed. We undertake radiation risk assessments and shielding assessments, advising on room layout, structural shielding, equipment positioning and the designation of Controlled and Supervised Areas.
We work with healthcare centres, architects, contractors and equipment suppliers to ensure radiation protection requirements are incorporated in a practical manner into the design from the outset.

We provide radiation protection advice throughout installation, including the requirements for the Critical Examination and appropriate radiation protection surveys following installation.
Once installed, our MPEs undertake acceptance testing and commissioning to establish equipment performance, baseline values and suitability for clinical use.

We establish the practical framework required under IRR17, including Local Rules, designation of areas, contingency arrangements and advice on the appointment, role and training of Radiation Protection Supervisors.
We also advise the employer on applicable HSE notification, registration and consent requirements and support the implementation of appropriate radiation protection arrangements.

We establish and oversee an appropriate quality assurance programme, incorporating routine equipment performance testing and quality control.
Our MPEs support the assessment of patient dose, establishment and review of Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) and optimisation of imaging with ionising radiation procedures.

We provide specialist MPE advice on IR(ME)R procedures and compliance, including optimisation, patient dosimetry and the investigation and assessment of accidental or unintended exposures.
An annual MPE audit provides structured review of the centre's arrangements, identifying areas requiring action and supporting continued regulatory compliance.

Our involvement continues beyond commissioning.
As appointed RPA and MPEs, we provide ongoing specialist advice as equipment, clinical practice or facilities change, giving clinics a consistent source of radiation protection and medical physics expertise throughout the life of their service.
